Cosplay Time!

One of the many future projects added to my list

Miki from Shugo Chara

This is for a friend I met a few years ago at MTAC
I believe it was 2009
She found me on youtube and our friendship started from there

I'm really excited to be making this for her
I don't make a whole lot of cosplay
Just cause I only go to one con every year (thats all I really have time for)
But this is even better cause I'm getting paid
$.$

But that's not the soul reason to be doing this
This is like my own personal challenge

To make a custom costume for a person that is not myself
What I plan to do is
-Make or alter patterns
-Produce mock ups
-Set up arrangements/meetings
-Alter again, if needed
-Make again in the real materials needed
-Do anther meeting
-Alter garments if needed
-FINISH IT BEFORE . . . the 20th?

OH GOD I HOPE I CAN FINISH BEFORE THE REALLY BIG PROJECTS GET STARTED!
But thank the LORD that this is a really simple project for me
Just look at it!
It's just a button up shirt, a black vest, and a pair of dark blue knickers!
I have patterns for all of that!! (well I'm custom making the vest)

I think I can do it!
THIS IS A CHALLENGE AFTER ALL!

XD

Someone pray for me

. . .

Gah I hate that show

The Shiny Corset

Here is a corset I finished last week, before I started on the Steampunk Victorian dress

A Shiny Red Corset with Steel Boning and Busk

It's sort of a little waist clincher
The material I used for this is kind of a plastic
The fabric itself was almost like a sheet of just red plastic

I would show you the back to show the ribbon ties,
but then I would be making you through up
Other words, it's really gross to look at
;^^; ;

This has a four clasp steel busk and 16 steel rods/boning
This has a 2"-4" back gap and, in this photo, gives me a 24"or 22" (I'm not completely sure) waist line
This is a huge accomplishment to me, cause my waist line (which I will not reveal) is...well...not very tiny like 24" or 22"
Now I have a nice little corset training...corset!
Or even a nice raving/ clubbing garment
Although, I do need advice for some issues
Such as when I start to loose circulation in my right leg
^^;

Heres a better picture of the curve of the waist with a white background

Now I would like to share some interesting construction info that I did
You might have noticed that there is not bias tape
That's because I used a different method of corset construction
A method that most people don't do for corsets using steel boning

What I did instead was first add the busk,
Then I sewed the top hem (under bust) and bottom hem (hip) together
Leaving the horizontal back seem open
Then turned the whole thing inside out

And what a job that was

After many minuets of poking and clipping corners,
I added the bones

Now how I did that was that I left the sandwich channels, at the bottom hem (hip) open,
To allow myself to simply slip the bones right in their appropriate spaces
Then I toped stitched everything, including the back seem together

Then finished off the corset with adding 5 eyelets to each side of the back

This was a pretty good result
I was expecting a frustrating mess
or just a sewing disaster

But it isn't!

:D
