Steampunk Plans for MTAC 2012: Dress Done

I am happy to announce that the Victorian dress has been completed!
In only 1 1/2 days!

This turned out great!

Pictures can only describe the greatness of this result

This picture features two bustles in the front
One way to wear this dress

More views/ close ups

A few other options I could do is
- One bustle on the side (left or right)
- Four bustles in the front and sides
- Or all bustles combined

There is a nice little train in the back as well
It is more defiant if there are bustles in the front

Lace trim
Lace is over 100 years old
Very antique

Scalloped trim on lace

Has a green zipper
about 6 or 8 inches

Two silver clips hand sewn on to waist band

This has no lining
Wish I could have put some in but I wasn't sure how to deal with that due to the bustles
So I just didn't add any
:(

Perfect addition to a Steampunk atire
Corset will be done later in the next year
2012
Cause theres only 5 minuets till that year

My mision is to find a big brown soft leather jacket from Goodwill and use that for my corset
I have yet to find the perfect jacket
It will take some time

Thanks for reading and have a great new year

Hurrah!

or...

Huzzah!

New Lolita Skirt: Elegant Roses

Latest project!
Roses are Pink Elegant Lolita Three Tiered Front Panel Dress

This dress was a challenge for me
I'm not so proud of the result, but I learned to like it
It's pretty nice when you add all the petty coats underneath (right photo),
but by itself (left photo) its ok

This is a specific design I came up with myself (assuming that this wasn't thought up from a big time lolita designer first)

This is another one of my half elastic half flat waist band skirts

The a front panel has three tiers with lace covering the seems

The sides also have a twill tape (I forgot what its real name is) on the side seems to add a little more elegant detail

And there is also 4 inch long ruffles and white lining

Here are my notes on this skirt if you are interested in the process and thought pattern
Please check out my etsy shop if interested in this dress

Next Project: Steampunk

Really exciting news
The next sewing project will be to completed a heavily planned Steampunk outfit for 2012's MTAC (local anime con)

The theme for this years con is "Omega" or the end of the world
And for one of the days, I will be a Murderess Steampunk

:D

Happy thoughts!

So heres a sketch of what I have in mind

It's looking kinda plain right now with just a corset and a skirt,
but once I can achieve the major elements, the little details will soon make this whole ensemble completely awesome!

So the bustle is a single layer with no ruffles, but antique 100+ year old lace along the hem
Don't ask me how I ended up with lace like that
It is at least 3 or 4 inches wide
The dress itself will be a forest green
Something to really compliment the color of the lace

The corset I am hoping will be brown and made of leather
My concern with this is that will my sewing machine work with real leather?
I mean I will use fax leather if I have too
I once used pleather (I think thats what it was): or something similar to leather
and that worked
I just had to place paper on its right to get the dog foot moving
But otherwise that worked
I'm kinda hoping for a miracle.

There will be a belt along with this as well! I'm really excited to make this!
There will be a compartment for the following
-Phone
-Money/Important Cards
-Pocket Watch (with a little window to show off the gears)
-Belt loops to clips things onto
- More loops for fake or real weapons

And I can save a place for my broken and pathetic fox tail

My pets tore it up so it looks more like a deformed bunny tail
T^T

But overall I'm really glad that I'm going to do this project!

My only worry about after the project is that how in the hell will I wash this skirt with such delicate lace?!
The thought scares me to be honest

I'm sure that this will all be worth it when I wear this to MTAC or the annual Renaissance Fairs or just any other occasion appropriate for steampunkness!

Lolita Dresses: Large and Pink

Well, it's been a long few weeks
I FINALLY had the time to do SOMETHING now that I'm on my winter break and got all the exams done

I finally got to finish a small project to test out a new pattern I learned how to make recently
And the results were AMAZING!

I learned how to make a "flared skirt" pattern

Its almost like a circle skirt but its made of 4 or 5 different sections (not 1 or 2 like a circle skirt)

I made this skirt with some eyelet lace and long white ruffles

This skirt took me at least 6 hours to complete, maybe more than 6
The ruffles were hand crafted

This skirt is on the etsy shop!

Lolia JSK Pattern Tutorial?

So I've been searching for a way to make my own pattern for a JSK Lolita dress
and I think I finally found my solution...

Although it is not very specific, and in Spanish
 it's better than nothing right?

I will try to translate this by Google Translate
or by asking my Spanish Teacher to translate for me

UPDATE 12.6.11
This is apparently in French
*face palm*

Once that is done, I can make a pattern of my own from this little tip

And once I do that and make a dress of my own, I will share to you all my findings!

:D

THERE IS HOPE FOR ANYONE WITH MY PROBLEM!

Prom Dress 2011

So this week I haven't been doing much of any sewing at all,
which makes me really sad

But I will post this dress that I made at the beginning of the year.

Heres a prom dress I made for the Joann's Prom Contest

Front View

Back View

This is a ball gown corseted top dress with plastic boning and an overlay of red, black, and more black tulle with rime stones as a top layer

Now I'm really sad about this dress for many ill thought of mistakes...

This was one of the many first attempts of making a corset. What I did was that I bought a corset pattern, modified the waist line for a more dramatic curve, and sew an overload of tulle along with a satin under dress.

What I wanted out of the corset was a 2 or 3 inch back gap, a dramatic curve, and, heh make my boobs really pop out...
(But overall I wanted a very tight fit in all places of my torso)

But what happened was that the waist was more snug than tight and breathless, the bust was HUGE, and the hips were awkward and gross appearing

I wish that it would have turned out better cause it would have looked even better if I had just gotten all the measurements correct....

And I wasn't in the top 20 contestants for that contest....

sigh

I might sell this item

New Cat Hat!

New
Black Visual Kei Cat Hat
With its Shiny Glory

This is literally my latest project!
Got right out of my chair, sat on my bed, took the photo, and now its on my blog for all to see!
It took a little under 50 minuets,
It was a quickie for an occasion for tomorrows hang out with friends!

This hat includes
Red fishnet ears
5 safety pins
A broken zipper decoration on front
A zip head on the ear
A chain that falls from the ear to the zippers

This was a hat made for myself, because sometimes I need to make myself something nice
Cause every time I make something for my shop, it is more difficult to send away because I get too atathed to my crafts

Damn Good Lolita Fabric

So I wanna keep posting as much as I can, but right now I'm working on a project and I'm not finished. I'm still in school so I'm not sewing as much as I want to.

But to keep this blog going, I'm going to show you what I bought at my local fabric store

TADA!

Beautiful rose fabric! Awesome for Lolita stuff!
:D
My only concern for this fabric was the small rose strips. I couldn't tell if the strips was up or down or left to right, but I'm pretty sure its left to right (picture shown)
None the less, it was a beautiful print, I only wish it came in black, then I would have been very greedy and made some lolita for myself

Which I haven't done yet and really should do soon
T^T

43''- 44''

If anyone who comes across this blog lives in Tennessee, the store I got this from is "Textile Fabrics" in Berryhill, all the way in the back with their 50% off racks! I always enjoy a good search in the discount areas of stores. You never know what you will find in the old dingy bins with a red tag!

The original price was $12.98 a yard
o.o
but I got this for at least $6 a yard and I got four yards, so the checkout price was $28
I didn't think it was too bad :/
It's ganna make a damn good skirt!!

Well, that's my update for now

Nyan with ya soon!

The Begining

I would like to start off this blog by explaining how everything started...

I guess it all started with a crazy idea that me and another friend of mine had. The idea was to create products to sell at the local Anime Convention named "MTAC." It was one of those thoughts that was a good idea at the time, but we never really were devoted and gave a serious effort to start.

But there I was...just thinking...hhmmm...making money eh?

While my other friend had no sewing experience, and me with...some experience, I started to invest in felts, threads, a sewing machine (well conveniently enough, there was a Singer machine sitting around the house, go figure) and all those other important supplies to start a small hat business. This was my freshman year of high school, and ever since then I haven't been able to stop sewing and creating random items to share to the world.

:D

Things just progressed from there, I eventually started to make a SHIT ton of money with the silly/crazy Otaku anime hats, I also, at the time, wanted to become a professional actor.

In fact, I wanted to be a voice actor, just to be in animes and work for FUNimation. I wanted to  meet those voice actors, such as...
Todd Haberkorn
Luci Christian
Aaron Dismuke (drooool)
and of corse, who can we forget...the amazing, Vic Mignogna

MEOW!

Back then, I really didn't know where I wanted to go in life.

Which path to walk upon,
standing at a crossroad
Endlessly staring at the street signs
Deciding to go left, right, straight
or backward, from once I came from....

It was hard back then, but then something happened, something that really made me change my mind: a Christmas gift from my dad, lessons for what he thought were for voice acting
NOPE! (Chuck Testa)
They were for theater projection...voice....lessons
as in...making your voice stronger from an on stage performance
had NOTHING to do with character voice acting
:/
It was a six or eight week lesson, meeting on tuesdays, or something, at the local collage theater building, because he apparently works for some collage theater class.
His lessons where SO ANNOYING!!!
I didn't enjoy anything about those damn classes! The breathing excursuses were down right uncomfortable!!

I mean, I understand the reasons behind those stretches, but the things he made me do, I mean jezz, he might as well of just made me go doggy style in the middle of the theater, or some other weird sex position...

-__-*

By the end of the lessons, he really made me feel like SHIT!!
I was suppose to memorize this monolog from Romeo and Juliet, which was incredibly difficult for me. Whenever I tried to preform it to him, he would just shake his head in disgust, and say
"wow...look at how far we have come, and YOU can't even get this down right.
I would HATE to leave you like this, unaccomplished and disappointed"

Total "Son, I am disappoint" moment...

It was his lessons that made me feel terrible as an actor.
Thats when I change my direction from acting to fashion design, because THAT was going well WAY BETTER than whatever I was doing with my acting stuff

NOW, I have an ok little business on Etsy.com
http://www.etsy.com/people/JapanCandys?ref=si_pr
^ Linkie Linkie!! ^

I also have progressed since then. I am now learning and making Lolita skirts, steampunk attire, goth attire, punk, JUST EVERYTHING!

I guess this blog will represent the little details of the things I make, maybe each item will feature a story as to how I came to make these items

I don't know

But I hope that people will read this, share, and find the shop through this blog

Well, I guess thats all I really think I can say about this...
Enjoy
